Zumba Class on July 20 is cancelled

Tuesday July 20 the Zumba class is cancelled. I encourrage every body to keep practicing the Zumba moves and come to the gym to work your butts out while I soak up the sun and drink some maragritas in Soult saint mary (don't feel to sorry for me!). I will see you all back Tuesday July 27.

Safety Tips for runners


Important Safety Tips for Runners and Walkers

Map Your Route in Advance
Tell someone where you are headed and when you plan to return. That way if something were to happen to you, someone would know where to look if you didn’t return.

Carry Identification
It is important to carry ID incase you are injured or rendered unconscious.
Whatever ID you choose, make sure it includes your name and emergency
contacts

Run Against the Flow of Traffic
Facing traffic allows you to see when cars are coming. It is better to see the traffic then risk not being seen by a driver. **Biking is a different story, always go with the flow of traffic when cycling.

Beware of Dogs
If you encounter a vicious dog, the best thing to do is stop running you will not be able to outrun it! Try backing up slowly and try to put something between you and the dog. If you can throw something, throw the object away from the dog so it will chase the stick and not you. As a last resort, drop to the ground and curl up in a ball, covering your face and head.

Wear Reflective Gear
Whether it be a hat, jacket, shirt or large button, reflective gear allows you to be more visible. Anytime you can become more visible allows for better safety.

Plateau Busters

You changed your habits and lost weight steadily, but after awhile, that progress halted. You’ve been stuck at the same weight for weeks. There is nothing more frustrating than trying your best, working hard and doing all the “right” things and not making
progress towards your weight loss or fitness goals.

There are plenty of ways you can re-energize your program and motivation to break through your plateau.

Add variety to your workouts
Variety is critical because your
muscles become very efficient at the exercises they are accustomed to
doing.
Switching things up regularly both in your aerobic and strength training routines is recommended.

The intensity of your workouts is a key component to breaking through a plateau. This is something you can do daily. Work at an incline or harder level, do sprint work or intervals.

Changing your strength training
routine is also important—vary the number of sets or repetitions. Be sure to increase the weight you are lifting on a regular basis .

April Fitness Tips


Developing a Healthy Back and a Strong Core
Your core is your Power-house and critical for optimal health and fitness.
If you core is strong, that strength radiates out to the rest of your body. If it is weak, various injuries, aches and pains are more likely to surface -
Here are few of the quickest ways to strengthen your abdominals/Core.
Improve posture - Bad posture is a problem. To improve posture, while in the standing position, line up your ears above your shoulders, your shoulders over the hips, hips over the knees and finally knees above ankles. The shoulders remain open as though a shirt on a hanger.
Think whole-body exercise –It is a misconception that strong abs means doing thousands of crunches. Abs have to be seen as a 360 degree core.
Plank - Seated Rotation - Bicycle
exercise - Ball crunch - Reverse Crunch Vertical leg crunch.
Examine Diet and Digestion - You may have great abdominal strength and posture but still have abdominal fat, to get a flat stomach you need to lose fat by diet, i.e. eat less while moving more.
Take things slow - There is no such thing as a "quick fix", slow
progression is the only way to achieve a flat stomach and meet goals.
Set Realistic Goals - Genes play a role in the determination of body shape, but this doesn't mean you are unable to improve your appearance, set realistic expectations and rather do something than nothing.
